Organ transplantation is one of the most effective therapies for patients with end-stage diseases. Preservation of organs is crucial as it is directly related to morbidity and survival of recipient after transplantation. Organ transplantation, preservation and related procedures require a specialized team to ensure safe transplantation. At kaizen, we have a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals specialized in various fields of cancer care with the goal of effectively preserving organs for transplantation.
We are specialized in the following organ transplantations and procedures:
- Breast conservation and reconstruction: Breast conservation is a surgical procedure that is done to rebuild the shape of breast after any surgical procedure. It is most commonly performed in women who have had surgery to treat breast cancer. During the procedure, a plastic surgeon will create a breast shape using any artificial implant (implant reconstruction) or a flap of tissue from another part on your body (autologous reconstruction), or both. Usually, most of breast cancer surgeries try to remove the cancer while leaving as much normal breast as possible. But in case of advanced cancer, it involves removal of all the breast tissue. In such cases, breast reconstruction surgery is recommended to rebuild the shape and appearance of the breast.
- Sphincter preservation in rectal cancer: Sphincter preservation surgeries are the recommended treatment option for low rectal cancer which is traditionally treated with abdominoperinea resection (surgery in which the anus, rectum, and sigmoid colon are removed).
A sphincter preservation surgery involves complete resection of the tumour by preserving the continuity of the bowel and functioning of the anal sphincter. As the procedure is performed with particular emphasis on sphincter preservation, oncological outcome, functional outcome, morbidity, quality of life, and patient preference, an improved understanding of the biological features and advances in diagnostic and surgical procedures are essential. At Kaizen, our specialized team is renowned for their expertise in sphincter preserving operations in lower rectal tumors.
- Bladder preservation: Bladder preservation is a safe and effective alternative approach for patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer as surgical removal of all or part of the urinary bladder (cystectomy) requires urinary diversions and substantially impairs patients’ quality of life. This procedure treats the cancer without affecting the bladder form and function. The bladder-preserving approach is usually a combination of three treatments – radiation therapy, chemotherapy and complete TURBT. At kaizen, a comprehensive team of physicians and nursing staff as well as a range of support services is available to provide a personalized treatment plan and to improve treatment outcomes.
- Limb salvage/preservation surgeries: Patients living with cancer, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease or a non-healing leg wound will have a higher risk for limb amputation. With the use of advances in limb-sparing surgery, your physician can help you to keep your limb. The procedure aims to remove tumors in the limb or manage your wound without the need of removing the whole limb. At kaizen, we focuses to preserve your limb(s) while offering you a lifestyle of independence and mobility.
